About Us
Maybell Quantum is building the hardware foundation of the quantum era. Our redesigned dilution refrigerator gives labs more fridges per room, more experiments per fridge, and a level of reliability and usability the field has never had. We are a fast-growing, venture-backed team of scientists and engineers, and the cryogenic systems we design in Denver ship to leading quantum computing groups around the world.
We are seeking a Cryogenics Engineer to test, validate, troubleshoot, and refine our products and the subsystems that comprise them. You will work alongside our R&D scientists, mechanical and electrical engineers, and manufacturing team to elevate our products, drive customer success from installation through long-term operation, and deliver an exceptional customer experience.
What You'll Do
Test, Validate, & Iterate
• Develop Test Plans: Build comprehensive experiments that push our products to the limit to ensure the highest quality standards—and to find ways for “the best to perform even better.”
• Operate and Troubleshoot: Become the equivalent of a “test pilot” for the most advanced cryogenic systems in the world, with a heavy focus on evaluating the user experience and risks to uptime.
• Drive Innovation: Work with our product and engineering teams to refine our platforms’ designs based on your tests and discoveries.
Support our Customer Success Team
• Support Global Operations: Partner with our customers to root-cause and solve issues, allowing them to achieve the next breakthrough in quantum computing. Occasionally travel on site to assist when required.
• Build our Customer Success Infrastructure: Document test, and inspection procedures to ensure a common standard across the company and the highest level of customer support.
Safety & Standards
• Engineer for Safety: Apply pressure-safety, relief-sizing, and oxygen-deficiency hazard practices to systems that handle helium-3/helium-4 mixture, liquid nitrogen, and high vacuum.
Who You Are
Required:
• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in mechanical engineering, physics, or an equivalent technical field.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, or operating cryogenic systems.
• Strong grounding in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics at cryogenic temperatures, including low-temperature material properties.
• Hands-on experience with high-vacuum systems and helium leak detection.
• Experience safely handling cryogens such as liquid nitrogen and liquid helium.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, or ANSYS.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-starter who can drive results independently in a fast-moving environment.
• Able to work on-site in Denver, CO.
Preferred:
• Experience designing, building, or significantly modifying dilution refrigerators or other sub-kelvin systems (ADRs, helium-3 systems).
• Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field.
• Experience with helium-3/helium-4 gas-handling systems.
• Experience with brazing, welding, indium seals, or other cryogenic joining and sealing methods.
• Background in quantum computing, scientific instrumentation, or superconducting hardware.
• Experience with pressure-system design under ASME or equivalent codes.
• Experience in a high-growth, venture-backed startup.
What We Offer
• Base Salary: $90,000 – $120,000/yr, depending on experience and qualifications, plus equity and performance bonus.
• Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k); paid time off and paid holidays
• Impact: Direct influence on the success of a company developing revolutionary technology.
• Exceptional Team: Collaboration with world-class scientists, engineers, and business leaders who are defining a new industry.
