The Vice President of Business Development leads sales strategy and team performance within the Business Development department. This role combines hands-on leadership — coaching, mentoring, and managing individual accounts — with high-level strategic ownership of team goals, client relationships, and revenue growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Including, but not limited to:
• Drive sales strategy and process to ensure the highest standard of client service across the team
• Lead new business development through lead generation, prospect qualification, and relationship-building — leveraging conferences, referrals, job boards, cold outreach, and more
• Grow existing accounts through strategic account planning, strong client relationships, and proactive issue resolution
• Own team KPIs and performance metrics, ensuring balanced workloads and clear, quarterly-monitored goals
• Manage pricing, quotes, proposals, and contract negotiations to hit team sales targets
• Deliver on personal and team revenue goals — meeting quarterly targets and driving year-over-year growth
• Shape and pitch new ideas to fuel department and company growth
• Oversee the creation and delivery of client-facing presentations
• Build and maintain sales processes that maximize revenue and long-term partnership success
• Cultivate a competitive, supportive team culture centered on client success and lasting relationships
• Deliver clear, consistent feedback — verbal and written — on performance, expectations, and initiatives
• Train and develop new hires to confidently advise clients, present services, and handle objections
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or equivalent a plus
• 4+ years of experience in sales
• 3+ years of sales management experience
• Experience managing a healthcare sales team preferred
• Experience in the physician recruitment industry preferred
• Proven track record of success in healthcare recruitment sales
• Proven ability to sell to and work effectively with healthcare employers/organizations
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop sales staff
• Strong record of achieving sales, revenue, quota, and margin targets
• Proficiency with CRM and reporting tools
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
• Ability to build and manage strategic client relationships at the executive level
• Demonstrated experience resolving issues and problem-solving in a fast-paced sales environment
• Collaborative, team-oriented approach with colleagues and direct reports
