About Cobalt
Cobalt is a private equity-backed company aiming to build the most impactful business in the commercial access and security industry (access control systems, video surveillance systems, intrusion detection systems and other low voltage systems integration). Cobalt is backed by Alpine Investors, a private equity firm specializing in middle market companies in the services and software industries and with $15bn+ of AUM. Just two years after launching, Cobalt has successfully acquired 21 partner companies and established itself as one of the leading platforms in a highly attractive and fragmented industry that is benefitting from substantial secular growth tailwinds.
The role
Every partner company arrives with years of data in systems that were never built to talk to ours. Getting the core tech stack implementation right is key to achieving our organizational goals. As Cobalt continues to acquire new companies, this role is the linchpin that turns a signed deal into a fully operating, data-accurate part of the platform.
The Data Integration Lead owns the end-to-end data migration process for every company - from initial data discovery through go-live and post-launch hypercare - ensuring each company’s data is onboarded cleanly, accurately, and on schedule. It's understanding how each business operates, and knowing which data decisions will help or hurt them and the finance close. You start from a strong foundation, make it faster, and then grow the role into reporting and analysis. This is a highly cross-functional, high-visibility position with direct exposure to Finance, Operations, and executive leadership.
What you'll do
• Run end-to-end data migration for technology implementations: be the main point person for data migrations from legacy systems to new systems, including data discovery calls, data extraction, cleansing, mapping, validation, and import into new systems
• Project manage the migration: maintain a clear migration tracker across all in-flight integrations, flag risks to leadership, track open items to resolution, and lead post-launch check-ins to catch and fix data issues early
• Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Sales/Operations, and portfolio company leadership to ensure migrated data supports reporting, billing, and day-to-day operations without disruption
• Own playbooks and standards: including data mapping standards, migration playbooks, and lessons learned after each integration to make each subsequent acquisitions faster and lower-risk
• Manage extractions using SQL and secure data transfers (e.g., cloud blob storage) as part of migration handoffs; validate imported data against source-of-truth files
What you bring
• 2 to 5 years in an operations analyst, business intelligence, data, or chief-of-staff role, or in consulting environment with hands-on data work.
• 2+ years of experience in data migration, systems implementation, or integration engineering — ideally supporting M&A integrations, acquisitions, or multi-entity rollups.
• Hands-on experience with messy operational and financial data; field-service management platform strongly preferred; experience with Sage or similar accounting/ERP systems a plus.
• Clear written and verbal communication with non-technical audiences — comfortable leading discovery calls with newly acquired sellers' teams and reporting status to internal leadership.
• Working depth in Excel and SQL, comfortable working directly with databases and checking data against source files, with AI tools used to speed up the work.
• Field-service platform and ERP experience, such as ServiceTitan or ConnectWise and Sage Intacct or QuickBooks, so you know where transactions and inventory live in each.
• Finance literacy, enough to read financial statements and reconcile open AR and AP, invoices, and payments when an import looks wrong.
• Reports and dashboards that answer a business question, not just display a table.
It helps if you have
• A finance, accounting, or engineering background. Strong work signals matter more than the degree.
• Experience with Power BI or CRM data.
• Time in a multi-location service or trades business, or on a team that integrated acquisitions.
• Consulting work in areas like procurement, spend analysis, workforce planning, or annual operating plans.
