The Senior Hardware Engineer supports or owns the design of automotive computing products, including infotainment, connectivity, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and cross-domain electronic control units. The role translates customer and market requirements into robust, cost-effective hardware designs and leads those designs through verification, validation, industrialization, and mass-production launch.
• Work directly with automotive OEM customers to elicit, analyze, document, and manage functional, electrical, environmental, safety, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements.
• Define system and hardware architectures for products that include switch-mode power supplies, power switches, LVDS transceivers, HDMI receivers, USB hubs, embedded microcontrollers, audio/video codecs, and standards-based wireless communications such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
• Lead schematic design, component selection, design reviews, interface definition, and printed circuit board layout guidance, including signal-integrity, power-integrity, thermal, grounding, and design-for-manufacturing considerations.
• Perform simulations, worst-case circuit analysis, tolerance analysis, design failure mode and effects analyses (DFMEAs), fault-tree analyses, and similar design-assurance activities.
• Develop and negotiate hardware verification and EMC validation plans that satisfy internal, customer, and applicable automotive requirements; maintain requirements-to-test traceability.
• Troubleshoot validation, manufacturing, and vehicle issues through bench-level debugging, testing, measurement, root-cause analysis, and prototyping; drive corrective actions to closure.
• Manage hardware deliverables, technical risks, design documentation, change control, and release readiness across the product life cycle.
• Lead and collaborate with local and global cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, manufacturing partners, and customers to meet quality, cost, timing, and performance targets.
• Mentor less-experienced engineers and contribute to hardware design standards, reusable methods, and continuous improvement.
• Travel as required, including occasional international travel and travel to domestic customer and global company locations.
Minimum:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• 7 years of experience designing and developing electronic hardware, including ownership of complex circuit designs and delivery through verification or production release.
• Demonstrated proficiency in schematic capture, circuit analysis, laboratory debugging, technical documentation, and design reviews.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly and collaborate effectively across disciplines, organizations, and geographic regions.
Preferred:
• Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Experience with automotive hardware-development practices, OEM customer requirements, product-quality processes, and applicable environmental, EMC, and electrical-transient standards.
• Full product-life-cycle experience with automotive electronics, including requirements, architecture and concept development, component selection, schematic design, analysis, simulation, verification, validation, industrialization, production launch, and sustaining engineering.
• Digital design experience with processors, microcontrollers, memories, display interfaces, I²S, I²C, SPI, and high-speed serial interfaces such as USB 2.0/3.x, Ethernet, PCI Express, and HDMI.
• Analog and mixed-signal design experience with audio, video, sensor interfaces, power supplies, power sequencing, and radio-frequency technologies such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
• Experience applying signal-integrity, power-integrity, electromagnetic interference (EMI), radio-frequency interference (RFI), electrostatic discharge (ESD), grounding, shielding, and thermal-design methods.
• Experience developing and executing design verification plans and reports (DVP&R), interpreting test results, and resolving nonconformities.
• Proficiency with current laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, logic analyzers, electronic loads, power analyzers, and environmental or EMC test equipment.
• Experience with circuit-simulation, schematic-capture, PCB-layout, requirements-management, and product-life-cycle-management tools.
• Working knowledge of functional safety, cybersecurity, component qualification, reliability, and supplier-management considerations for automotive electronics.
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems through independent analysis and cross-functional collaboration, influence technical decisions, and communicate effectively with customers and senior stakeholders.
