Job Overview
We are seeking mid-level software engineers to join our dynamic team and contribute to the design, development, and support of mission-critical systems for government and commercial clients.
Essential Functions
• Solve straightforward technical problems independently
• Solve complex technical problems with advice and guidance from Senior and Principal Engineers when necessary
• Manage small to medium-sized projects
• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, high-performance, and maintainable software solutions.
• Build and support software applications, including database integration, interfaces, and new functionality enhancements.
• Move freely between first principles analysis and complex software “canned” solution analysis. Has a strong understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each and knows when and where to use them.
• Develop design data ranging from system descriptions / one-lines, technical reports, and customer presentations
• Produce and maintain technical, operational, and training documentation in alignment with BlackSea and government standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues using critical thinking and systematic approaches. Recommend and implement design improvements based on analysis and findings.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including government and industry partners, to explain complex control system issues and solutions.
• Collaborate with other internal controls and software teams across locations to maintain awareness of technical issues, updates, and project status.
• Implement software on hardware platforms and perform maintenance, including updates and troubleshooting
• Retrieve and clear log files from hardware for use in diagnostic troubleshooting and other applications
• Monitor emerging technologies, government, and industry trends; advise leadership on current capabilities and potential future opportunities.
• Participate in training, integration, and RDT&E (Research, Development, Test & Evaluation) events. Occasional travel is required to provide on-site support and training for non-local exercises.
• Experience or willingness to work in a rapid prototyping and testing environment
• Technical curiosity and the desire to conceptualize, design, build and test a wide range of ever-evolving projects being implemented from the seafloor to aerospace systems
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Competencies
• Demonstrated full-lifecycle software development experience in either C++, Python, or Java
• A passion about software design, software engineering, and developing groundbreaking tools for autonomous platforms
• Strong organization and planning skills, with record of accomplishment in a team environment
• Excellent interpersonal skills in outstanding written and oral communication skills
• Familiarity with USV platforms or other unmanned maritime systems desired
• Knowledge of Navy operational processes and fleet standards desired
Education / Certifications
• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Controls Engineering, or a related technical disicpline.
Experience
• 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering, controls engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with signal processing and messaging protocols (Serial, CAN, NMEA 2000, TCP/IP).
• Experience in the development and implementation of closed loop control systems desired.
• Experience in the practical implementation of machine learning desired.
• Experience in developing simulation-based test and evaluation software desires.
• Hands-on experience with GPS, IMU, transducers, actuators, or related sensor/actuation systems desired.
• Prior work or internships in robotics, autonomy, or maritime system desired
• Familiarity with USV platforms or other unmanned maritime systems desired
• Experience with fleet operations or maritime platform desired
